From
nerofiddledI just saw the three-hour Conyers forum on C-SPAN.It was a riveting, important event, and also a gratifying one: This morning, a committee in Washington said things which until now have only been said by bloggers and activists.

I hope the mainstream media reports on it. Given the increased attention in the last week, from major newspapers if not TV networks, I think there's a good chance. Ralph Neas, President of People for the American Way, was one of several speakers who called for the criminal prosecution of Kenneth Blackwell, who he said "did everything to minimize the vote in urban areas, and engage in voter suppression." America, Neas said, "should be the model of democracy, not the model of hypocrisy."

A certain amount of the commentary, early on in the forum, seemed to concentrate on the long-term reform of our voting system. Cliff Arnebeck, who is a forceful and provocative speaker, responded, "This election, the fraud in this election in Ohio, must be fixed, before this election is finalized. The people of the state of Ohio, the people of this nation, and the people of this world, cannot accept a fraudulent election for the President of the United States."

Comparing the Ohio situation to that in the Ukraine, Arnebeck vowed, "We will not move on until we find out what the fraud was, and we correct it." He also alluded to "open, conspicuous conspiracies against the voting rights of black Americans."

Susan Truitt, of Citizens Alliance for Secure Elections, was even more passionate, and even more blunt. "This is despicable," she said. "This is not America. This is not the America that we were promised. This is not the America that we dreamed of. We have statistical evidence of fraud in this election, and we...will be filing a contest of this election this week."

This forum was exhilirating, and a definite step in the right direction. I'm sure there will be immediate fallout, which I'll post here soon. Also, today there should be more news about Clint Curtis.

We've had a little victory today. Let's remember to celebrate that, while we continue to fight. More soon.
